I’ve been knitting, crocheting, unraveling, and starting over since I was taught by some very nice old ladies at my church when I was in fifth grade. I took up the hobby and joined the group “knitting for love” simply because Wednesday night ministry was 6-12 grade. I had an older sister who would go to Wednesday night church, but I was too young for any of the groups. In one of the small rooms in that church, a group of about 5-10 older women would sit from 6 pm to whenever they finished their projects or got tired, every Wednesday night when there was nothing for me to do. They invited me in and taught me all the basics of knitting and crocheting. Eventually, I was regularly attending those meetings and regularly creating hats, scarves, socks, and even mittens. It’s a hobby and a craft that comes and goes, I always have the materials available at home but rarely do I feel like making hats anymore.
The product, beanies, made for all kinds of cold occasions, is a great one, to put simply. I believe anything handmade holds more value than a purchased good. This hat is machine washable, and will never come unraveled, fall apart, or even have a missed stitched.
The yarn used for these particular hats was the softest yarn I could find in stores. I wanted to stay along with my love for neutral colors, but also, how could you not make a colorful hat for certain occasions?
The product only takes about an hour to make.
I decided to make this hat on a loom because it’s just the easiest way to create a hat. This is also very passive, for someone who has mastered looming. The product, again, is a handmade hat made from multicolored yarn.
I followed a 20 stitch around for the brim, then another 20 stitch around for the hat. I tied it off at the end and tied all the remaining strings. Finally, a hat was made!
